VMware CTO Steve Herrod blogged earlier today that he is resigning his post at the company.
VMware CTO Steve Herrod blogged earlier today that he is resigning his post at the company.
According to the post on the VMware site, Herrod will immediately move on to a managing director position with venture capital firm General Catalyst. The move was sudden, as the company has announced that it is looking internally and outside the company for a replacement. He will continue at VMware as an advisor until his replacement is found.
Steve Herrod has been one of the more visible, accessible executives at VMware. He originally joined the company as its director of research and development in 2001, and it was shortly thereafter that VMware introduced its first server virtualization solutions to market. He moved up the R&D ranks through the years, taking over the team that developed of ESX and ESXi. In 2008, he was named CTO.
His departure comes months after a shuffling of executives at VMware and parent company EMC.
