Citrix Takes Solutions-Based Path with Certifications

New certification titles take program into different direction focusing on solutions rather than products.

Citrix debuted its revamped certification program at the Citrix Partner Summit that took place earlier this week in Orlando, Florida. The certifications are aligned along three solution-based tiers--Apps and Desktops, Networking, and Mobility--which differs from the current program, which provided certification types and levels based on products.

Within the Apps and Desktops are three tiers for proving expertise in designing and deploying Citrix XenDesktop 7: Citrix Certified Associate (CCA-AD), Citrix Certified Professional (CCP-AD), and Citrix Certified Expert (CCE-AD). Each title requires candidates to pass one exam to obtain the titles:

  • CCA-AD- 1YO-200: Managing Citrix XenDesktop 7 Solutions
  • CCE-AD: 1YO-300: Deploying Citrix XenDesktop 7 Solutions
  • CCP-AD: 1YO-400: Designing Citrix XenDesktop 7 Solutions

For those obtaining the CCE and CCP, there are prerequisites as well. In the case of the CCP-AD, candidates must obtain the CCA-AD before they can sit in on hte 1YO-300 exam. For the CCE-AD, candidates must already have the CCP-AD title.

The Networking tier has two certification paths for those who are NetScaler experts: Citrix Certified Associate-Networking (CCA-N), and Citrix Certified Professional-Networking (CCP-N). Each title requires passage of one exam with no other prerequisites for either title:

  • CCA-N: 1YO-250: Implementing Citrix NetScaler 10 for App and Desktop Solutions
  • CCP-N: 1YO-350: Citrix NetScaler 10 Essentials and Networking

Citrix is currently developing an Expert-level certification; details will be published on this page when it becomes available.

The Mobility track is currently a single-tiered certification aimed at IT pros who have expertise in designing and deploying mobile solutions using XenMobile Enterprise: Citrix Certified Professional-Mobility. It requires one exam, 1Y0-370: Designing, Deploying and Managing Citrix XenMobile Solutions, but the information page states that new exams will be released for this one at some point.

These certifications are valid for three years after passing the exams. All exams are currently available at Pearson VUE testing centers. Candidates who have older certifications should check the guides for more information on upgrade path suggestions.
