VMware Announces Hypervisor Deals for Dell, HP, IBM and Fujitsu-Siemens Servers
Today at VMworld Europe in Cannes, France, VMware announced that within the next 60 days ESX 3i hypervisor will ship embedded in servers from its partners Dell, IBM, HP and Fujitsu-Siemens.
"Customers can now get VMware pre-integrated and pre-configured for the hardware platform of their choice for immediate standalone server consolidation," Diane Greene, president and chief executive officer of VMware, said in a prepared statement. "We are very excited to be partnering with Dell, Fujitsu-Siemens, HP and IBM to proliferate virtualization and fast-track customers on the path to running a self-managing virtual datacenter."
ESX 3i is VMware's "hardware-integrated" hypervisor which the company touts as the "industry's smallest" at 32 MB. By being completely separate from the operating system, ESX 3i "eliminate[s] many common reliability issues and security vulnerabilities," according to the company.
Some features of ESX 31 include intelligent-default configuration, remote command line interface for many management functions and integration with VMware's Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS), which automates the allocation of system resources.
As part of the deal, servers shipping with ESX 3i will include evaluation versions of VMware's datacenter virtualization management suite, VMware Infrastructure 3 (VI3).
