Verizon Wireless To Virtualize Its Mobile Phones for Personal, Biz Use

Verizon said it's working with VMware to offer phones that can make transition from home to work without hiccups or headaches for IT.

A VMware press release details plans by Verizon Wireless to deploy VMware's Horizon Mobile technology on Android-based mobile phones destined for the North American and European (via Vodafone) markets.

The plan is to allow Verizon Wireless customers to purchase one phone that can serve dual purposes -- for personal use as well as part-time as a mobile device with services integrated and managed natively in the enterprise. The phones will also be able to take advantage of the many apps available for the Android market.

Verizon partner LG will be the first partner to deliver the dual-purpose phones on Verizon's 3G and 4G LTE networks, although availability dates and phone models are not specified in the release.
