Dell Offers 3 New VDI Solutions
Dell introduces two turnkey VDI appliances based on Dell PowerEdge servers, available now, and is slated to add a cloud-based VDI solution next quarter.
Computer maker Dell has introduced two new solutions for alleviating the burdens associated with implementing desktop virtualization: DVS Simplified Appliance and DVS Enterprise. Dell is also completing development and delivery on a desktop-as-a-service solution, called DVS Simplified Desktop, for delivery later this year.
DVS Simplified Appliance is a turnkey desktop virtualization appliance based on Citrix's VDI-in-a-Box installed on a Dell PowerEdge R710 server that comes with virtual machines and VDI Manager to manage it all. Three years of Dell ProSupport are included with the appliance. According to a press release, companies that need more VMs can snap on more Dell DVS Simplified Appliance boxes.
Dell's DVS Enteprise targets companies who need to size up to enterprise VDI deployments. The solution comes on the customer's choice of PowerEdge server packaged with an EqualLogic virtualized storage server, networked via a Dell PowerConnect switch. Companies can choose between VMware or Citrix solutions based on virtualization preference.
According to Dell's release, it will also release a desktop-as-a-service solution, simply called DVS Simplified DaaS, next quarter. The solution is based on technology from Desktone's Desktone Cloud, a cloud-baed VDI that, according to Dell, allows companies to get the same benefits as the DVS appliance-based solutions, sans appliance.
