Parallels Desktop for Mac Runs Windows 8
Performance has been improved, and this version is compatible with most of the features of Windows 8, including touch capabilities.
Parallels released version 8 of its Desktop for Mac, virtualization software that lets Mac users run the Windows OS as well as Linux and Solaris OSes.
The newest version has some support for Windows 8, including the ability to drag and drop apps and files to the Windows 8 VM, or from there back to the Mac. Many of the touch gestures that can be used in the Mac's Mountain Lion version of OS X can be used in the current Windows OS as well.
Other features include use of the Mac's Retina display for displaying high-end graphics in a Windows 7 VM instance (support for Windows 8 is unknown at this time). Parallels indicates that this version's performance has been improved over the earlier version.
Parallels Desktop for Mac 8 can run on Macs running OS X 10.9.8 or newer, with Mountain Lion 10.8 and a machine sporting an Intel Core 2 Duo chip. It retails for $79.99 and is available now.
