XenDesktop 7 Gets Moving

Citrix extends its VDI solution with mobile capabilites.

Citrix has updated its XenDesktop 7 VDI solution with mobile capabilities. The news was officially announced at its Citrix Synergy Conference in Anaheim, Calif. today.

XenDesktop 7 now incorporates much of the mobile experience, being able to take advantage of touchscreen features such as tapping, scrolling and swiping. Windows apps running on XenDesktop on a desktop-sized machine will dynamically resize on mobile devices. Also new is HDX compression, which means it can optimize bandwidth efficiencies via H.264 compression and allow HD-quality video over 3G networks.

Citrix claims XenDesktop 7 has simplified workflow and has improved configuration for better management and deployment of apps, which can be managed from the cloud via its EdgeSight analysis tools.

At Synergy, several partners offered support for version 7: CA Technologies with its CA Infrastructure Management 2.2, Dell's DVS-Enterprise line, and NetApp's Data ONTAP.

XenDesktop 7 will come in Platinum, Enterprise, VDI and XenDesktop App flavors next month. For more, go here.
