Peer into the Cloud with vCenter Log Insight

Beta version of log analysis appliance consolidates log info from various physical and virtual environments for deep inspection and reporting.

VMware has released a beta test version of its vCenter Log Insight, a new, stand-alone appliance with a single-minded purpose: to consolidate the vast amounts of log information generated in physical and virtual environments for deep analysis.

vCenter Log Insight can take logs in structured and unstructured formats from all manner of devices and services that generate log information, from applications to firewalls to appliances and network devices and virtual machines and hosts. It then aggregates that information so that it can be consumed and formatted for use within vSphere's dashboards and reporting. vCenter Log Insight can be run directly from vCenter Operations.

vCenter Log Insight will be sold as a turnkey appliance. General release is expected sometime in the third quarter of 2013. Upon release, pricing will be $200 per OS instance. On a side note, vCenter Log Insight originally was developed by Pattern Insight, which VMware acquired nearly a year ago.
