Wind River Revs Up Open Virtualization
Virtualization software promises near-native hardware performance speeds.

Wind River has introduced the latest version of its open-source virtualization technology, Open Virtualization. A Yocto-based Type 2 hypervisor that works with Wind River Linux, Open Virtualization optimizes Virtual Machine (KVM) technology, offering carrier-grade network services on virtual machines with performance rivaling native hardware speeds.
The latest version of Open Virtualization claims an 18-percent reduction in maximum interrupt latency over the previous version released earlier this year, and a 450-percent increase in virtual switching speeds over standard Open vSwitch. In addition to performance enhancements, the new release offers improvements to its live migration features, including intra-CPU migration to intra-node migration and intra-virtual machine switching. An oVirt-powered live migration console supports guest OS migration.
