Citrix Releases Mac Version of DesktopPlayer
The Mac version is a mobile client virtualization solution that's used in conjunction with Citrix XenDesktop to provide always-connected services.
VMware Fusion and Parallels have some competition, now that Citrix released a Mac version of its DesktopPlayer last week. The Mac version is a mobile client virtualization solution that's used in conjunction with Citrix XenDesktop to provide always-connected services.
Like the Windows version, DesktopPlayer for Mac gives IT management control of Mac laptops. Those laptops sporting DesktopPlayer can gain access to virtualized Windows applications in the same way that Windows machines can access those services.
The beauty of running Desktop Player is that it doesn't consume much in the way of local device resources and doesn't have to be rebooted every time a user wants to switch between the Mac or Windows interfaces. As well, DesktopPlayer for Mac can run those services in environments that have unstable or poor connections without interruption. Services on the devices are always maintained by IT centrally.
Citrix Desktop Player for Mac is available as an add-on for those using Flexcast for distribution, starting at $75 per machine. More info is here.
