SteelFusion 3.0 Centralizes Data, Improves Performance for Remote Offices

Riverbed's latest converged infrastructure appliance fuses branch servers, storage, networking, and virtualization infrastructure into a single solution.

Organizations with branch offices are usually faced with a tough trade-off: Choose between the reliability of centralized data or the performance that localized data provides. Riverbed is hoping its SteelFusion 3.0 (formerly known as Riverbed Granite) will make the decision an easy one.

SteelFusion 3.0 is a branch converged infrastructure that centralizes data in the datacenter, while promising local performance and nearly instant recovery at the branch. It does this by fusing branch servers, storage, networking, and virtualization infrastructure into a single solution.

Riverbed is claiming significant performance improvements in the new release. For example, a six-fold performance gain over the previous SteelFusion appliance promises that users get faster local performance for storage-intensive workloads like VDI and CAD/CAM applications. In addition, customers can expect a three-fold increase in data capacity at the datacenter. SteelFusion's Branch Recovery Agent, a new predictive pre-fetch capability, further reduces recovery time from major outages.
