Dan's Take

Veeam Releases Availability Suite Version 9

More than just backup.

Veeam recently released its Veeam Availability Suite v9. This version adds 250 new features and supports a number of new storage servers and capabilities to its supported storage systems.

What's New In v9?
Veeam describes v9 in the following way:

"Veeam Availability Suite v9 introduces hundreds of enterprise-focused enhancements and new innovative features delivering the following capabilities: high-speed recovery, data loss avoidance, verified recoverability, leveraged data and complete visibility."

Dan's Take: The Value of Happy Customers
Veeam is a dynamic company offering tools that provide backup and recovery (the company likes the phrase "Data Availability") for applications and data residing in VMware and Microsoft virtual servers. Although the company reaches a bit far when it speaks about datacenter availability, customers I've spoken with almost universally have a story in which Veeam was the hero that saved them from either their own errors or from equipment or software errors.

Veeam competes with quite a large number of backup, availability and storage software suppliers, including companies such as IBM, HPE, NetApp, and EMC. They are partners with many of their competitors as well.

One interesting thing about Veeam is that most of the customers I've spoken with love the company and its products. Although most of them prefer to remain anonymous, one of them, BLR, allowed me to profile them in one of my "Making the IT Decision" kindle eBooks.

If you are running virtual environments based upon VMware or Microsoft's Hyper-V, Veeam is a company you should know.
