VMware CEO Pat Gelsinger: 'As Excited As Ever'

The VMware CEO talks about what excites him most about his job.

This issue of Virtualization & Cloud Review is dedicated to VMworld 2017. Our cover story is a Q& A with CEO Pat Gelsinger, whom I've always found to be up-front and engaging. One question I asked was cut out of the interview for space reasons, and I thought it would be worthwhile to give this column over to Gelsinger's answer. I asked him if he was still excited to get up and go to work every morning. Here's what he said:

"I'm as excited as ever. How could I not be?

"As a team, we are all excited and committed to helping our customers succeed in their digital transformation journeys. Our software and services help them build exactly what they need, the way they need it. It is truly a privilege to serve our customers and our partners.

"VMware as a company continues to receive some amazing recognition from the industry as a great place to work. We were honored to be recognized, for the third year in a row, as one of the 2017 Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work, according to global research and consulting firm Great Place to Work and Fortune. And for the fourth year in a row, VMware was recognized on the 100 Best Places to Work in IT from Computerworld. That's just a couple of the many recognitions VMware has received.

"I often say that in today's business environment, you can see that 'tech is breaking out of tech' and into every business and every area of every business, touching more and more lives. We believe that the era of digital transformation is ushering in a broadening of the role of technology. As enterprises embark on their digital transformation journey, as well as movements to the cloud, VMware is in this really unique position at the intersection of mobile and the cloud. It's hard to contain my excitement … you'll totally see this when we kick off VMworld 2017 next month!"
