Getting Started with Enterprise Containers Summit

9 a.m. PDT/12 p.m. EDT, Containers 101:
What Are Containers and What Applications Are They Right (and Wrong) For?
Containerized applications and microservices have taken the IT and development world by storm in the last few years.

In this session, we'll briefly look at the history of how we got to this point and what the state of the art looks like in containerized applications. Next, we'll address the DevOps model that undergirds much of the containerization trend and how it needs to be embraced to get the maximum value out of containers.

The heart of the session will be a close look into the types of applications that thrive in a containerized environment, as well as types of applications that aren't suited for containers at all. We'll look at performance considerations, security considerations, platform considerations, and more.

10 a.m. PDT/1 p.m. EDT, Containers 102:
Kubernetes: Constructing Cloud Native and Vendor-Neutral Platforms
Kubernetes orchestrates the configuration, execution, and ongoing operation of containers across clusters of one to hundreds of nodes. Containers encapsulate both simple and complex applications, from microservices to monoliths. Kubernetes abstracts the infrastructure needed to execute, interconnect, manage, and monitor containers. Learn how Kubernetes accelerates platform development through unified networking, configuration, data, and operational control planes.
  • Learn how Kubernetes promotes both Cloud Native and Vendor-neutral development and operations.
  • Learn how Kubernetes lowers the cost of adopting new technologies, experimentation, and platforming existing technologies, leveraging the combinatorial effect of a unified configuration, networking, and operational control plane.
  • Learn how Kubernetes provides opportunities for configuration and operational visibility across teams.

Our Presenter:

  • Craig Johnston is the Chief Architect at Deasil Works, Inc. and has been developing software for over 25 years. Craig’s expertise revolves around development operations, data science, platform design, and software engineering. Craig is successfully operating multiple commercial Kubernetes platforms supporting a range of industries, from retail and IoT to social media and the academic community. He is the author of the upcoming book "Advanced Platform Development with Kubernetes: Enabling Data Management, the Internet of Things, Blockchain, and Machine Learning" now available for pre-sale on Amazon. You can follow him on twitter @cjimti.

11 a.m. PDT/2 p.m. EDT, Containers 103:
How to Think about Costs with Containerized Apps
We'll walk through several common scenarios, starting with what costs look like when you overlay containers and microservices on your legacy datacenter. We'll look at the costs of a greenfield on-premises datacenter, optimized in every way for container/microservices performance.

Then we'll look at cost considerations related to containers in the public cloud and in hybrid cloud environments. Attendees will complete the session with a framework for thinking about overall enterprise container costs in various scenarios.

Why Attend?

The "Guide to Getting Started with Enterprise Containers" summit is a half-day virtual event in which attendees will get a complete walk-through of everything they need to know about working with containers. From when to use containers to management to Kubernetes and other platforms to evaluating costs.

Attendees will come away with an understanding of the power of this infrastructure tool and how to use it successfully in their enterprises.

As always, our summit session content is from the editors of Redmondmag and Virtualization & Cloud Review, plus independent experts who offer real-world insight and advice that attendees can use right away.

Join us live for all three sessions and be ready to take your IT infrastructure into 2021!
