Virsto Powers Up First Storage Hypervisor
The company claims its Virsto for VDI plays very well with VMware's vSphere.
Virsto announced a new addition to the vSphere ecosystem, Virsto for VDI, vSphere Edition. It's a software-based storage hypervisor that the company claims can ease storage burdens that have proven to be challenging for anyone who has had to provision storage in virtualized environments. Virsto for VDI adds a rapid-provisioning wizard right in vCenter, which the company said can be used to provision thousands of VDI instances in minutes. The wizard can also be used to create an unlimited number of snapshots, as well as thin-provisioned clones via Virsto vClones. Virsto for VDI is $2,800 per host.
In related news, last week Virsto announced that new partners have poured another $5 million in venture capital into the company. One of those partners, Southern Cross, had invested in EvoStor, which Virsto acquired earlier this year. The company plans to spend that capital in growth, hiring, and refining development along the lines of its storage virtualization technologies.
