VMware, Citrix Start 2014 with New Execs
VMware finally fills CTO spot, while Citrix adds to its mobile desktop team.
VMware and Citrix started the new year with new, high-level executive personnel.
VMware has promoted Ben Fathi to CTO. A blog post on the VMware site said that Fathi will report directly to VMware CEO Pat Gelsinger. Fathi was a senior vice president in VMware's R&D division soon after he joined the company in 2012. He's a 30-year IT veteran, with stints at Cisco and Microsoft. VMware had been without a head of technology since Stephen Herrod announced his resignation nearly a year ago.
Citrix announced that former Microsoft manager Rakesh Narasimhan was hired to direct desktop and application virtualization efforts at the company. Narasimhan was a general manager in the Server and Tools division at Microsoft for 15 years, and more recently was CEO of InstallFree, which delivered Microsoft Office to customers in a SaaS scenario. His appointment precedes the news of the Framehawk acquisition, which will fall under his umbrella of responsibilities.
Narasimhan replaces Bob Shultz, who was announced yesterday as Chief Strategy Lead & VP of VMware's End User Computing group. On another note, VMware also hired away another Citrix exec, Sumit Dhawan, to head its desktop business. Dhawan was group vice president and general manager of Citrix's Enterprise Mobility division.
