Nutanix Adds Hyper-V Support

Converged compute and storage solution goes hypervisor-agnostic.

Nutanix has added support of  Windows Server 2012 R2 with Hyper-V to its Virtual Computing Platform, an extensible, appliance-based server with built-in enterprise storage that optimizes any VM.

Nutanix's hypervisor-agnostic approach aims to deliver a common data fabric to power hybrid enterprise datacenters running different workloads across multiple virtualization technologies. With the new Hyper-V support, the platform supports is now compatible with popular services such as Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Exchange.

The new release also promises a high-performance and storage-efficient infrastructure solution for Citrix XenDesktop and XenApp running on Windows Server 2012 R2 with Hyper-V.

The Nutanix Virtual Computing Platform  converges compute and storage into a single system, eliminating the need for traditional storage arrays. The Nutanix approach replaces legacy storage with modular datacenter "building blocks" that the company says can be deployed in less than 30 minutes.

Each Nutanix node runs an industry-standard hypervisor and a Nutanix controller VM, which handles all I/O operations for the local hypervisor. Storage resources are exposed to the hypervisor through traditional interfaces, and are pooled and made available to all VMs.
