Alcatel-Lucent Partners with HP for Cloud Datacenter Networking

Alcatel-Lucent has teamed up with HP to feature HP Networking technology -- including software-defined networking (SDN) -- in its cloud datacenter solutions for IP and optical networks.

The hardware foundations for the new solutions are supplied by the Alcatel-Lucent IP edge platform, the 7750 Service Router, and the Alcatel-Lucent 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) optical products.

Alcatel-Lucent said the solutions help handle the burgeoning amount of data that's flooding enterprise datacenters and address security and storage concerns across many industry segments, including banking, finance, healthcare, utilities, government and cloud services.

"The solutions will allow enterprises to provide more cost-effective, reliable services more rapidly with a focus on business continuity, disaster recovery, secure data transport, datacenter interconnect and remote copy applications -- areas that will enable enterprises to address growing data demands using cloud architectures, with greater security and flexibility."

In a continuing HP/Alcatel-Lucent partnership, HP is providing SDN technology with its Distributed Cloud Networking (DCN) product, announced last fall.

"The HP Networking virtualization solution [is] tailored at service providers and extra-large enterprises," Alcatel-Lucent said. "DCN leverages the Virtualized Services Platform (VSP) from Alcatel-Lucent's Nuage Networks SDN venture. DCN lays the foundation for an open and dynamically controlled datacenter network by enabling customers to automatically deploy secure cloud-based SDN across distributed and disparate data center configurations, taking just minutes to implement.

On its DCN site, HP said, "DCN is a SDN solution that enables service providers and large organizations to automatically deploy secure cloud networks across a distributed infrastructure in minutes versus months. DCN is also accelerating communication service providers' (CSP) journey to network function virtualization (NFV) by optimizing network resources, increasing agility and speeding time-to-market through dynamic, service-driven configuration."

Alcatel-Lucent said the pre-tested, integrated solutions are available as part of the HP Complete Program in the Americas, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
