Verizon Partners to Bundle SDN Packages
Verizon has teamed up with other major players in the software-defined networking (SDN) arena to bundle virtualization services for enterprises looking for an easier onramp to the new technology.
Verizon last week announced Virtual Network Services (VNS) Solution Bundles, seeking to automate the delivery of multiple network functions in one package.
The company worked with providers including Checkpoint Software, Cisco, Fortinet and Palo Alto Networks to develop the pre-packaged service chains, which feature built-in network compatibility testing and licensing.
The bundles, Verizon said, basically let enterprises remove barriers to implementing SDN and related virtualization technologies with a point-and-click interface.
While more bundles are planned for release later this year, the current offerings include: routing, SD-WAN (software defined wide area networking) and security offerings.
Verizon said its Virtual Network Services solution bundles can help organizations improve network agility and reduce complexity by:
- Automating delivery of multiple virtual network connections and functions together
- Decreasing network deployment times
- Better managing app performance
- Reducing the potential for manual configuration errors
"By simplifying delivery of service chained virtualized network functions through their orchestration platform, Verizon has potentially shaved months from the deployment timeframe as well as significant associated configuration costs,” the company quoted Mike Sapien, chief analyst, enterprise services at Ovum, as saying.
