Cloud-Based Enterprise WAN Service Promises MPLS Performance
New-age SD-WAN services typically tout lower cost, agility and other benefits over legacy Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) implementations, but performance and quality of service have often been sticking points in favor of the latter.
Teridion claims to further tip the balance in favor of the software-defined approach with its new enterprise offering that it says is the industry's first cloud-based WAN service to match the reliability and performance of legacy WAN technologies.
Called Teridion for Enterprise, the service seeks to provide cloud-based advantages such as agility, elastic scale and global reach while maintaining SLA-backed performance and dependability over the public Internet that enterprises are used to in their legacy WAN systems.
The service runs on top of many public cloud providers with a proprietary approach called "curated routing" that the company says uses deep learning to improve distributed routing.
"Teridion for Enterprise integrates with leading branch office gateways and SD-WAN solutions to extend SD-WAN’s capabilities beyond the first and last mile," the company said in an announcement today (Nov. 7). "With both reliability and performance consistent with legacy WAN technologies such as MPLS, the Teridion service includes SLAs comparable to MPLS for SD-WAN and enterprise customers. Teridion provides snap-in integration to existing SD-WAN deployments from all major vendors, including Cisco Meraki, Citrix and Silver Peak."
Teridion said its enterprise solution is now in beta testing and should be generally available in the first quarter of next year.
