VMware Announces Update To VMware HCX Enterprise
Last week (Aug. 8) VMware Inc. updated its enterprise application mobility platform VMware HCX, which the company says is designed to "simplify workload migration, workload rebalancing, and optimize disaster recovery [DR] across datacenters and clouds."
The update introduces three key features to help enterprise customers streamline "the process of connecting, populating, and continually optimizing application placement in modern cloud infrastructures": Non-vSphere to vSphere migration, large-scale bulk migration and advanced DR with Site Recovery Manager integration.
Starting with KVM and Hyper-V, VMware HCX Enterprise now supports non-vSphere workload migration, which the company says gives "customers a simple path to re-platforming applications" and providing more control.
Using VMware vMotion, a live migration component of vSphere, "virtual machines (VMs) can be replicated to the new target in bulk and the migration can be completed at a scheduled time, allowing customers to control application cutover to minimize business risk," according to the announcement.
Working with VMware Site Recovery Manager (SRM), VMware HCX Enterprise combines DR capabilities with hybrid connectivity for "secure, efficient backup and recovery of critical workloads," while also enabling VMs to be secured in transit and simplifying IP address management for recovered VMs.
"In its first two years of availability, VMware HCX has become an integral part of VMware Cloud on AWS and VMware NSX offerings for customers migrating VMware workloads," said Allwyn Sequeira, SVP & GM, Hybrid Cloud Services BU, VMware, in a prepared statement. "By building on that success and extending the VMware HCX platform to enable customers to fully operationalize hybrid and multi-clouds with faster migrations of VMware and non-VMware applications and enable airtight disaster recovery strategies, we've broadened both the use cases and the value of VMware HCX for new and existing customers."
The updated version of VMware HCX Enterprise is available now.
