NEC, Infovista Team Up for SD-WAN/UC-SDN Solution

A new partnership in the burgeoning software-defined networking (SDN) space sees NEC Corp. wedding its software-defined network-based unified communication (UC-SDN) offering with Infovista's Ipanema SD-WAN (software-defined wide-area network).

The combined solution will be part of NEC's Smart Enterprise Suite.

NEC's UC-SDN reportedly provides simplified provisioning and dynamic, on-demand allocation of critical network resources.

The Ipanema SD-WAN from Infovista -- a network performance and application control specialist -- boasts "Application Intelligence+," which according to the company works in the background to maximize the return on SD-WAN investments through the autonomous allocation of resources, done "dynamically and intelligently." With Application Intelligence+, enterprises define business intents and the intelligence takes over from there to realize them, the company says.

NEC said the new joint solution is expected to reduce costs related to WAN connectivity while enabling prioritization of specific unified communication (UC) sessions across both LAN and WAN.

"NEC's on-premise UC customers will have access to an SD-WAN and SDN package that is suitable to support NEC's UNIVERGE call flows," NEC said. "The Ipanema SD-WAN solution also provides application intelligence to a vast array of application suites including biometrics, video flows and more. As the customer transitions through their hybrid WAN/SD-WAN transformation, this solution will allow customers to replace expensive hardware, maintain Quality of Experience for voice and mission-critical business applications, and give them the ability to prioritize specific applications on finite bandwidth."
