New Zerto 10 Offerings for Ransomware Protection, Azure DR

Zerto, a cloud data management and protection specialist, today announced Zerto 10, the latest version of its namesake cybersecurity solution with a variety of capabilities.

New offerings of the flagship product include:

• A real-time encryption detection mechanism and an air-gapped recovery vault, enhancing hybrid cloud protection against ransomware and other cyberthreats.
• Enhanced disaster recovery (DR) and mobility for complete infrastructure flexibility with Zerto 10 for Azure.

Zerto 10's advanced detection mechanisms enable users to monitor encryption-based anomalies in real-time, said the Hewlett Packard Enterprise company in a May 18 announcement. That is said to help organizations identify and mitigate potential ransomware attacks in their early stages, boosting ransomware resilience.

The newly introduced Zerto Cyber Resilience Vault, built on Zero Trust architecture, adds another layer of security designed to: replicate and detect; isolate and lock; and test and recover. Those three "pillars" of the product enable rapid air-gapped recovery. This feature allows enterprises to design a robust recovery vault tailored to their needs, which might include mitigating even the most devastating ransomware scenarios.

Zerto 10 also introduces a turnkey Zerto Virtual Manager Appliance, a security-hardened virtual appliance that replaces the legacy Windows-based Zerto Virtual Manager (ZVM). The new Linux-based appliance offers enhanced security, easier deployment, and automatic maintenance as part of regular Zerto product updates.

"Zerto's enhanced functionality will ensure users can achieve one of the fastest times to protect, detect, and recover from ransomware attacks in their environments in the industry. The addition of enhanced Microsoft Azure disaster recovery demonstrates our commitment to providing our customers with the most advanced and secure solution available."

Speaking of which, the Azure offering was announced at the same time, highlighted by a new replication architecture for scale-out efficiency and native protection of Azure virtual machines (VMs).

The architecture can accommodate thousands of VMs to reduce management complexity and enable data movers to scale out or back based on I/O levels between production and DR to, from, or within the Azure cloud.
