Cisco Working With Citrix on Many Virtualization Fronts

Cisco and Citrix Systems have formed an alliance that has them working together to deliver Citrix-supported Cisco hardware and devices to Cisco's customers

Cisco and Citrix Systems last week announced an alliance in which both companies would integrate some of their technologies, resulting in the delivery of media-rich VDI to Cisco customers. The alliance is part of Cisco's Virtualization Experience Infrastructure (VXI) initiative to centralize VDI deployments.

In simple terms, Cisco plans to release a new version of its Cisco Wide Area Application Services that is optimized to work with Citrix XenDesktop and Citrix HDX. Cisco is also working to deploy some Citrix technologies to work on mobile devices that Cisco currently has in development, mainly the Cisco Virtual Experience Clients and Cisco's recent entry into the tablet market, the Cisco Cius. The Cius will integrate support for Citrix XenDesktop and Citrix Receiver.

Cisco and Citrix will be giving demonstrations of the technology alliance and releasing more development details at the Citrix Synergy event taking place next week in Barcelona, Spain.
