Report: 'Cloud and Distributed Computing' Are Skills Companies Need Most

In its "Most Promising Jobs 2018" report published in mid-January, LinkedIn includes a list of the most in-demand skills, with Cloud and Distributed Computing landing at the top.

Mining data from its 500 million-plus members, the business-oriented social site determined the skills that companies are having the most difficult time filling.

With cloud jobs topping the list, LinkedIn listed related jobs and their average salaries: Platform Engineer ($120,000) and Cloud Architect ($135,000).

While the jobs list isn't limited to tech positions, they continue to dominate the rankings. "Year-over-year technology jobs and skills have dominated these lists, and that's a trend that's likely here to stay," LinkedIn said. "All jobs are likely going to require some technical skills in the future, so make sure to brush up on the basics."

In the ranking of most promising jobs (as opposed to skills), coming in at No. 1 was Engagement Lead, with a median base salary of $93,000. The jobs list highlights those with high median salaries, many job openings and strong year-over-year growth, along with the jobs most likely to lead to a promotion or advancement -- as well as the top five skills associated with each.
