Previewing First-Ever EUC World Conference

World of EUC (WEUC) is a new organization for End User Computing (EUC) professionals dedicated to "creating an inclusive and vendor-agnostic platform that advances collective expertise and enhances the power of knowledge in the world of end-user computing."

To further this goal, they announced that their first annual conference, EUC World: Independence, will be held this year in Maryland Oct. 22-23.

Although it is a month or two away, it is best to register early to get the best pricing. A pass will be $150 until Aug. 31. After that, it rises to $200 and then $250, which, even at the highest price, is quite a bargain for a two-day conference.

What I like about WEUC and this conference is that it promises to be vendor agnostic, so a wide variety of technologies and options will be held. Their keynote speakers highlight their agnosticism: The legendary Brian Madden, who now is at ILKI, a boutique consulting/analyst firm based in Paris; Shawn Bass, VP and CTOVP and CTO of Cloud Software Group; and Gabe Knuth, senior analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group. All three are EUC lifers and come from different companies.

The agenda looks interesting, with a nice mix of sponsored and independent technical presentations.

The sponsors look interesting, with a nice mix of companies. One company on the sponsor list you may not know about is Apporto, which recently came to my radar. I have been impressed with it and had a chance to chat with its founder and CXEO, Antony Awaida.

It seems like the EUC community is searching for an agnostic forum, and WEUC is trying to fill this void. Although the D.C. area is a long journey for those on the West Coast (a five-hour flight), those involved in the EUC community would gain a lot by attending this inaugural event. If you live closer, it is a no-brainer to attend.

Lastly, its low price makes it accessible to just about anyone, not only for the conference but also for lodging, as they have cut a deal with the local Hilton hotel for a room rate of $169, which is quite reasonable for the area.

More Information about the event can be found here.
