Maritz Steps Out of CEO Role at VMware
It's official: As of Sept. 1, Paul Maritz will step out of his CEO role at VMware and will be succeeded by Pat Gelsinger, currently EMC's Information Infrastructure Products president and COO.
Maritz isn't going anywhere. Instead, he'll stake out a position with EMC, parent company to VMware, as Chief Strategist. Maritz will also continue to sit on the Board of Directors for VMware.
The news of the executive reshuffle comes on the same day that VMware offered a sneak peek at Q2 2012 results that come in at what the company characterized as a record quarter for revenues at 22 percent over a year ago today, at $1.123 billion. Maritz, Gelsinger, and EMC Chairman and CEO Joe Tucci participated in an earnings call this afternoon to explain its revenue results and to address the executive reshuffle.
VMware will host an earnings call on the finalized Q2 results on July 23. To read the official press release from VMware, go here.
