Beyond the Managed Control Plane: Protecting and Moving Kubernetes Apps Across AWS with Veeam Kasten

Date: Wednesday, October 21 at 11am PT / 2pm ET

Join us live for a chance to win an Amazon Echo Show 8!*

Managed Kubernetes services on Amazon Web Services (AWS), like Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS) and Red Hat OpenShift Service on AWS (ROSA), take control plane operations off your plate. The shared responsibility model has AWS responsible for the cluster and the customer responsible for the application workloads. The managed control plane limits customer access to etcd. Even where you can, an etcd snapshot only captures cluster state. It doesn't give you an application-consistent copy of your workloads, persistent volumes, secrets, and configuration. "Stateless" apps also depend on more than they seem to, including ConfigMaps, Helm releases, operators, custom resources, and the external data services they connect to. Losing any of these can turn an outage into a rebuild.

In this joint session, AWS and Veeam will cover:

  • Why "stateless" EKS apps still need data protection. What a managed control plane does and doesn't cover, and where etcd snapshots fall short in production.
  • Application mobility with Veeam Kasten. Moving and restoring whole applications across Availability Zones and AWS Regions for disaster recovery, migration, and cluster upgrades.
  • Veeam Data Cloud Vault as a backup target. Sending immutable, encrypted backups off-site to fully managed storage built on Amazon S3, with no infrastructure of your own to run.
  • ROSA and Kasten. Extending the same protection and portability to OpenShift workloads on AWS.

You'll leave knowing how to keep enterprise applications available and recoverable, wherever you run Kubernetes on AWS: EKS, EKS Anywhere, AWS Outposts, or ROSA.
