With Recover2Cloud, Disaster Relief Comes to Cloud Services
Sungard provides what it calls the first cloud disaster recovery service of its kind for VMware VMs.
With cloud outages becoming a common occurrence, it's no wonder there are dozens of DR companies throwing their technology into the cloud. Yet another player in the cloud DR space is Sungard, which released Recover2Cloud at VMworld, which is taking place in Las Vegas this week.
Recover2Cloud does DR a bit differently for the cloud. Essentially, any VMware virtual machine or virtual server environment created gets replicated onto one of Sungard's many datacenters. If the original VM goes down, the version at Sungard's center can be activated to take over. The recover isn't instantaneous and may take an hour to several hours.
At this time, Recover2Cloud has support for VMware virtualized environments only.
