HPE, NEC Team Up for Mobile-First SDN
Hewlett-Packard Enterprise (HPE) and NEC Corp. announced they are teaming up to provide "mobile-first" software-defined networking (SDN) solutions.
In the first part of the new initiative, NEC SDN controllers and switches will be integrated with hardware from HPE and its subsidiary, Aruba, to provide upgraded voice and video communication products and managed services. The HPE/Aruba hardware includes switches, routers, wireless access points, controllers, network management and network access control (NAC) products.
The companies said the integration effort will help enterprises modernize their networking infrastructure to meet increasing mobility needs, along with supporting the enterprise use of connected devices in the burgeoning Internet of Things (IoT).
"HPE and NEC have joined forces to bring the value of mobile-first networking to our mutual customers worldwide," said HPE exec Dominic Orr in a statement this week. "We are leveraging years of joint collaboration to integrate our technologies in order to rapidly address additional customer opportunities across our key markets."
NEC exec Kimihiko Fukuda also weighed in on the new pact.
"The Integration of NEC's SDN technologies and HPE and Aruba Mobile First technologies will result in comprehensive solutions that help our customers worldwide enhance their productivity," Fukuda said. "We also see complementary value to jointly collaborating in areas such as security and the IoT."
The new solutions will first be rolled out in Japan and the Asia-Pacific region before coming to the Americas and Europe.
