Aryaka Adds 'HybridWAN' Functionality to its SD-WAN Service

Aryaka, known for its managed software-defined wide-area network (SD-WAN) offering, has added connectivity options with what it calls HybridWAN.

Definitions of HybridWAN often describe a combination of multiple connections available for WAN traffic, such as multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) circuits and broadband Internet, for one example.

For Aryaka, those connectivity options include its own Layer 2 core network and its managed Internet connectivity, with the L2 core option suitable for business-critical traffic -- a bailiwick of MPLS in traditional networks -- and the Internet option suitable for less critical -- and costly -- traffic.

The company indicated that while its solution is often used by customers along with MPLS, that traditional technology can be subsumed by its L2 core connectivity that provides the same performance -- such as service-level agreements (SLA) -- at the lower cost associated with Internet access.

"Aryaka's HybridWAN is fundamentally different as it primarily leverages DIA last-mile connectivity and Aryaka's global private L2 network, instead of perpetuating the model of relying on a cost-intensive MPLS infrastructure to try to deliver on a consistent user experience for business-critical applications for the digital, cloud-first enterprise," the company said in a blog post.

In addition to the connectivity options, the San Mateo, Calif., company's new offering includes zone-based firewall capabilities and micro-segmentation to support multi-tenancy.

"For enterprises undergoing digital transformation, Aryaka's new capabilities further ease SD-WAN adoption by offering flexible WAN connectivity and security options," the company quoted Lee Doyle, principal analyst at Doyle Research, as saying in a news release. "A managed SD-WAN offering that integrates connectivity, security, application optimization and multi-cloud access helps shield the enterprise from operational complexity and increase their WAN transformation ROI."

Aryaka placed No. 6 on a list of top managed SD-WAN service providers compiled by research firm Vertical Systems Group in June.
