IBM To Offer Cloud-Native Software on Red Hat OpenShift

IBM Corp. today announced that it has reengineered its software portfolio to now be "cloud-native and optimized to run on Red Hat OpenShift." This will allow enterprises to build "mission-critical" apps once and "run them on all leading public clouds, including AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, Alibaba and IBM Cloud and on private clouds," according to the announcement.

IBM says that more than 100 IBM products will be optimized to run on the enterprise Kubernetes container solution and delivered on the company's hybrid multicloud platform.

According to the announcement, IBM will be delivering the cloud-native capability via "IBM Cloud Paks." These bundles provide "containerized software [that will] provide a common operating model and common set of services -- including identity management, security, monitoring and logging -- and are designed to improve visibility and control across clouds together with a unified and intuitive dashboard."

IBM also announced Red Hat OpenShift on IBM Cloud, a new offering that offers a "one-click" deploy option for OpenShift on IBM Cloud; Red Hat Open Shift on IBM Z and Linux ONE, an offering customized for these platforms; and related Red Hat consulting services.

Live launch dates weren't provided for these offerings.

IBM announced it was acquiring Red Hat last year, and completed the acquisition in June.
