Spectrum Enterprise Rolls Out Managed SD-WAN Service
Spectrum Enterprise announced the national rollout of a managed software-defined wide-area network (SD-WAN) service that leverages several next-gen technologies to serve enterprises and service providers.
The new solution checks nearly every box in incorporating new-age, disruptive software-centric technologies and approaches that emphasize generic hardware, openness and programmability: software defined networking (SDN), network functions virtualization (NFV) and virtual network functions (VNF), all rolled into an SD-WAN platform.
The offering will run on the fiber network of Spectrum Enterprise, which is a part of Charter Communications. Integrated into that fiber network architecture is a virtualized, edge compute platform the company developed in order to deliver its WAN offerings.
One reported unique capability of the platform is the integration of SD-WAN networks with Ethernet networks.
Spectrum Enterprise said the new-age, next-gen technical underpinnings of its managed SD-WAN platform come from a variety of vendors: Cisco for services orchestration; Fortinet for virtual security; Netcracker for VNF management; and Nokia's Nuage Networks for the SD-WAN technology.
"Our new Managed SD-WAN service delivers on our promise of choice and flexibility by enabling enterprises to grow and evolve their networks via our next-generation SDN/NFV platform," said exec Greg King. "Not only does this platform allow clients to securely integrate existing network sites and SD-WAN sites, it also enables us to rapidly deploy new capabilities for additional use cases and future network solutions."
As a managed service, it comes with help for design and implementation, after which 24/7/365 ongoing support is available. More information on the new solution is available here.
