Another Firm Woos Disgruntled VMware Customers to Migrate to Cloud

Many vendors tried to capitalize on the November 2023 acquisition of VMware by Broadcom that resulted in controversy and disgruntled customers, and they continue today.

Broadcom came under heavy fire for killing perpetual licenses in favor of subscriptions after buying VMware, which led competitors like CloudBolt to helpfully offer up its own products as alternatives by publishing a "VM Ware Acquisition Aftermath" whitepaper.

Cloud giant Microsoft offered up its Azure cloud platform in May, "Introducing the VMware Rapid Migration Plan."

Google got in on the action just yesterday announcing VMware Cloud Foundation on Google Cloud VMware Engine (GCVE) is now generally available, noting "there has never been a better time to move your VMware workloads to Google Cloud."

Just a few days ago, IBM published "Pathways to optimize, migrate, and modernize your VMware workloads on AWS," wherein it helpfully offers up its IBM Migration Factory to exit AWS as one option.

Earlier, Virtuozzo and Robson Communications announced a new distribution agreement "to offer on-premises or hosted cloud alternatives and enable business continuity for companies impacted by Broadcom's acquisition of VMware." Much of the above is detailed in the article "As VMware Competitors Circle, Broadcom Makes New Partners."

Now, Wanclouds, an AWS and IBM partner and migration-as-a-service specialist, is in with its offer, noting it has recently assisted numerous companies in migrating VMware VMs to the cloud using its VPC+ automation tool, reportedly simplifying the process and reducing complexities.

Specifically, Wanclouds is offering a complimentary migration of VMware VMs to AWS or IBM Cloud for companies reevaluating the best way to run their VMware workloads. The offer primarily targets small and medium-sized enterprises, mentioning several controversial factors in the Broadcom/VMware brouhaha such as customers facing a rise in license fees and sun-lighted support for cloud deployment.

"Now, for a limited time until the end of this calendar year, Wanclouds is offering free migration of VMware to IBM or AWS for up to 150 VMs for new customers who sign up for its one-year managed service subscription," the company said in a July 18 news release. "Whether companies are looking to migrate all their VMs to a single public cloud, multiple public clouds, or a hybrid cloud environment, Wanclouds is prepared to help. Free migration enables companies to move forward quickly with the best long-term strategy for their virtual infrastructure without worrying about the cost and complexities of migration."
