Dell To Buy Cloud Player Wyse Technology

The Round Rock, Texas computer maker expands its cloud offering by taking on the top thin-client maker.

Dell has expanded its desktop virtualization line by announcing an agreement to acquire thin-client maker Wyse Technology. Terms of the agreement were not included in the press release announcing the agreement.

Wyse is the top-selling thin client maker, having shipped out a million units in 2011. It claims to have more than 20 million of its clients in service worlwide currently.

Dell has a large suite of hardware and services under the Dell PowerEdge umbrella aimed at datacenter virtualization. With the Wyse buy, Dell expands into thin clients, which some pundits believe is a hedge on a weakening PC market.
