Teradici Claims First Third-Party Virtual Desktop Solution for Microsoft Azure Stack

Teradici says its Cloud Access Software is the first third-party virtual desktop solution to integrate with Microsoft Azure Stack, which lets organizations use Azure cloud technology on-premises and elsewhere.

Azure Stack is "a portfolio of products that extend Azure services and capabilities to your environment of choice -- from the datacenter to edge locations and remote offices. The portfolio enables hybrid and edge computing applications to be built, deployed, and run consistently across location boundaries, providing choice and flexibility to address your diverse workloads," Microsoft says.

Teradici's Cloud Access Software for Azure uses the company's proprietary PCoIP remoting protocol technology to deliver virtualized desktop applications or whole workspaces from clouds or datacenters to endpoints.

The company on Feb. 11 announced the new ability of customers, system integrators, and independent software vendors to integrate Cloud Access Software into an Azure Stack Hub solution while reportedly providing security and reducing complexity, deployment time and support costs.

"Teradici Cloud Access Software provides secure, high-performance virtual desktop access from Azure and Azure Stack HCI or Azure Stack Hub using PCoIP technology, enabling a common high-quality experience regardless of location or whether the user is accessing their desktop from an on-premises datacenter or the cloud," the company said. "The integrated solution can provide IT teams with the ability to manage and shift Windows and Linux workloads as required without impacting productivity."

The Azure cloud is a primary focus of Teradici, which offers many products on the Azure Marketplace and which earlier this month published a blog post on using its Cloud Access Software with Windows Virtual Desktop.

"Arguably, Microsoft's launch of Windows Virtual Desktop (WVD) was one of the most talked about developments in the enterprise cloud space over the past year," that post says. "With WVD, enterprises can provide virtualized applications and Windows 10 remote desktops for employees on Microsoft Azure. It's designed to offer a great remote desktop experience for Windows and Office users, and it offers support for some specialized cases, like compatibility with Windows legacy software."
