VMware, Mirantis Work Together on OpenStack Project

Mirantis' OpenStack distro now runs on vCenter and VMware NSX.

Mirantis and VMware have partnered up to work on providing native deployment of OpenStack on vCenter and VMware NSX. The project uses the Mirantis distribution of the OpenStack cloud platform, which is made possible via Mirantis's Fuel open source tool.

The work so far allows the configuration of the OpenStack Compute service with the vCenter, configuration of the OpenStack Networking Service with VMware NSX, and configuration of the OpenStack Block Storage service with VMware's VMDK datastore driver.

According to a joint press release, the companies plan to allow compatibility with OpenStack Havana, as well as future releases farther down the line.
