New Cloud-Native Platform DataStax Constellation Expected Q4 2019
This week DataStax used its first user conference, DataStax Accelerate, to announce its plans to launch a new cloud data platform, DataStax Constellation, which includes two cloud services: DataStax Apache Cassandra as a Service and DataStax Insights.
Built on its Apache Cassandra-based hybrid cloud database, DataStax Enterprise, the new cloud-native platform "is an entirely new engineering cloud service" that will allow users to access all of their "data needs from a single cloud console," according to the company.
Aiming to simplify and accelerate the application development experience, DataStax Apache Cassandra as a Service is a "net-new DataStax product" that will be the first service available. It will offer "automated backups of a Cassandra database ... and customized application drivers," which can be managed and provisioned from an "integrated development console." The company said the goal of DataStax Apache Cassandra as a Service is to minimize the complexities associated with tuning and configuring Cassandra and other distributed databases.
The other cloud service offering is DataStax Insights, a performance management and monitoring tool for DataStax Constellation and DataStax Enterprise, which includes Recommendation Insights (to solve cluster issues by providing recommendations using AI), Application Insights (provides a comprehensive view of Cassandra data models, driver connections and slow queries) and Performance Insights (to identify cluster performance bottlenecks, as well as partitions, datacenters and nodes that prove the most problematic). The company said DataStax Insights will initially support DataStax Apache Cassandra as a Service and DataStax Enterprise on-premises and in the cloud, with support for DataStax Distribution of Apache Cassandra on-premises and in the cloud coming at a later time.
"DataStax Constellation makes building modern applications easier for developers and IT teams by reducing the complexity associated with every aspect of purchasing, development, and operations," said Billy Bosworth, CEO of DataStax, in a prepared statement. "Because Constellation is cloud-native and fully compatible with DataStax Enterprise and Apache Cassandra, application architectures can easily span on-prem, hybrid, or multi-cloud. This frees businesses to choose whatever infrastructure is right for them."
DataStax says it plans to make the consumption-based Constellation, Insights and DataStax Apache Cassandra as a Service available on the Google Cloud Platform in Q4 2019, with availability on Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure to follow later. Available sooner is an early access program coming this summer, which customers can sign up for here.
