Veeam Adds AI Agent Monitoring, Precision Recovery to Microsoft 365 Backup

Veeam has launched Intelligent ResOps (iResOps) for Microsoft 365, adding AI agent monitoring, data governance and more targeted recovery capabilities to its cloud backup offering.

The new product, announced Oct. 15, is generally available as an add-on to Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365. It is the first generally available offering in the company's new Intelligent ResOps portfolio.

The idea is to give IT and security teams a clearer picture of what data they have, who or what can access it, and what needs to be recovered when something goes wrong -- particularly as AI agents increasingly interact with enterprise files.

What It Does
Veeam iResOps connects production data with backup information through the company's DataAI Command Graph, mapping files, permissions, users, AI agents and protection status across Microsoft 365.

Its main capabilities include:

  • AI agent monitoring and recovery: Discover Microsoft Copilot and other AI agents, identify sensitive files they can access, track file-level changes and undo unwanted modifications or deletions without rolling back unrelated data.
  • Data discovery and compliance: Continuously identify and classify sensitive or regulated data across SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams and Exchange, including who or what has access.
  • Storage optimization: Find redundant, obsolete and trivial (ROT) data and quarantine it for review before administrators decide whether to archive or delete it.
  • Recovery prioritization: Verify that critical business data is backed up, identify protection gaps and locate the information that needs to be restored first after an incident.
  • Natural-language queries: Let authorized users ask built-in AI agents questions about data, permissions, AI activity and backup coverage to help investigate problems and improve policies.

The precision recovery capability is particularly relevant to agentic AI, where an automated process might modify or delete multiple files before anyone notices. Rather than restoring an entire environment, administrators can identify the affected files and reverse specific changes.

Veeam CEO Anand Eswaran summed up the approach in the announcement: "A recovery point tells you what you can restore. A recovery map tells you what to restore first, what changed, and what not to bring back."

Availability and What's Next
Veeam said existing Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 customers can connect the new offering without migrating data or redesigning their backup architecture. It is available in Foundation and Advanced editions and through Veeam Cloud & Service Providers.

The company also opened private previews of iResOps for Veeam Data Platform and Okta. The Data Platform integration adds centralized visibility across protected infrastructure and backup servers, while the Okta offering focuses on restoring identities, policies, roles and other configuration objects after unwanted changes.

Additional private previews for GitHub, Azure DevOps and Google Identity and Access Management (IAM) are planned for the fourth quarter of 2026, extending the approach to developer environments and identity systems.
