Firms Partner on SDN, NFV Innovation Lab

New-generation software company CENX -- a software-defined networking (SDN) and network functions virtualization (NFV) specialist -- announced it's partnering with several other companies to show how vendor interoperability can contribute to end-to-end service management capabilities on hybrid network infrastructure.

The Canadian company is teaming up with Brocade Communications Systems Inc., Red Hat Inc. and RIFT.io Inc. to demonstrate in its SDNFV innovation lab how that vendor interoperability can help service providers bring products and services to market faster by efficiently operationalizing their SDN and NFV deployments using CENX's Lifecycle Service Orchestration (LSO) expertise.

"CENX's SDNFV innovation lab provides an ecosystem, aligned with the Central Office Re-architected as a Datacenter (CORD) principle of providing datacenter economies and cloud agility to service providers," said the company in an extremely acronym-laden news release.

"It showcases streamlined operations and real-world implementation of leading-edge use cases, such as enterprise services using virtual Customer Premises Equipment (vCPE), VoLTE using virtual Evolved Packet Core (vEPC), and Software-defined Wide Area Networking (SD-WAN)," the company continued. "The multi-vendor environment includes CENX Exanova Service Intelligence, Brocade vRouter, Red Hat OpenStack Platform, and RIFT.io RIFT.ware NFV Orchestrator and VNF Manager. The lab builds on CENX's previously announced demonstrations with other partner companies."

CENX said LSO improves on aging operations support systems (OSS) that have become difficult to use and costly to maintain due to a number of factors over the past two decades. LSO, it said, can provide an abstraction layer to help service providers transform their networks to SDN and NFV with easier, consistent orchestration.

"Many service providers are on an aggressive path to execute business transformation strategies, which are centered on next-generation SDN and NFV technologies," said CENX exec Andrew McDonald in a statement last week. "By bringing together leading vendors to pre-integrate comprehensive solutions across complex, hybrid physical and virtualized infrastructure, we can help service providers more quickly realize the opex-saving benefits of these innovations."
