HPE Private Cloud Adds Kubernetes Management in GreenLake Updates
HPE's latest GreenLake update is putting Kubernetes management into HPE Private Cloud, giving enterprises a private-cloud path for managing both virtual machines and containers as they modernize infrastructure for cloud-native and AI workloads.
The company on May 12 said HPE Private Cloud, now in its fourth generation, will offer Kubernetes for unified management of virtual machines (VMs) and containers on a single platform, with independent scaling for cloud-native workloads. HPE also said current HPE Private Cloud Business Edition customers will have a software upgrade path to manage both VMs and Kubernetes on existing infrastructure.
The update is part of what HPE described as "new GreenLake innovations across private cloud, storage and data protection" designed to help organizations modernize virtualized and cloud-native workloads without using fragmented, multi-vendor tools or taking on risky migrations.
HPE said the new HPE Private Cloud system is built on HPE ProLiant Compute Gen12, with improved performance per watt, higher workload consolidation and enhanced security through HPE Integrated Lights-Out (iLO). For customers seeking a broader cloud operating model spanning hybrid and multicloud management, orchestration, migration and automation, HPE said HPE Private Cloud includes an upgrade path to the enterprise edition of HPE Morpheus Software.
The announcement also includes several data-protection updates aimed at virtualized environments. HPE Zerto Software now enables live workload migration from VMware environments to HPE virtual machines with continuous data protection, according to the company. HPE also announced new Veeam Data Platform integrations for HPE Private Cloud, including agentless, host-level, image-based backup, native changed block tracking and cross-platform recovery. HPE StoreOnce now integrates with HPE Private Cloud for space-saving backup and real-time replication with near-zero recovery point objective/recovery time objective (RPO/RTO) recovery.
For hyperconverged infrastructure deployments at the edge and in distributed environments, HPE said HPE SimpliVity now supports HPE Morpheus VM Essentials and extended resilience and backup with HPE StoreOnce Gen5 systems.
Storage and AI Data Pipeline Updates
HPE also expanded its storage portfolio for AI and modern workloads. HPE Alletra Storage MP X10000 is adding native file storage alongside existing object storage on a single platform. HPE said the X10000 now scales to 16 nodes and 23PB raw capacity, offers a new 100 percent data availability guarantee and will deliver remote direct memory access (RDMA)-enabled file storage, building on existing support for S3 object storage over RDMA.
The company positioned those capabilities for AI data pipelines across training, inference and KV cache workloads, as well as analytics, cyber resilience and backup use cases. HPE said the X10000 Data Protection Accelerator Node supports backup ingest performance of up to 2.5PB per hour.
HPE Alletra Storage MP B10000 is also being updated with real-time agentic support designed to detect, analyze and resolve storage issues, along with a 5:1 data reduction guarantee. HPE said the B10000 will scale from four to six controller nodes, providing 50 percent more performance and built-in dual-node fault tolerance.
HPE Data Fabric Software is gaining policy-based data placement and movement for managing data across hybrid environments, along with a conversational interface and agentic AI assistant for natural-language access to the global namespace. HPE said the update also includes enhanced metadata integration for visibility, classification and lineage, plus support for Apache Polaris for governance and compliance across platforms.
On the data-protection side, HPE said Zerto is adding an AI assistant and Microsoft Defender integration for real-time threat visibility and faster recovery.
Availability
HPE said fourth-generation HPE Private Cloud systems are available now, while support for unified management of VMs and containers on HPE Private Cloud is scheduled for general availability in Q3 2026. Integrated support for HPE StoreOnce, HPE Zerto Software and Veeam Data Platform for HPE Private Cloud is available now.
HPE said HPE SimpliVity integrations with HPE StoreOnce Gen5 systems are scheduled for Q3 2026. HPE Alletra Storage MP X10000 with file storage is expected to be generally available in Q2 2026, with 16-node scale-out and RDMA for file support expected in Q3 2026. The new HPE Alletra Storage MP B10000 release is planned for Q3 2026, HPE Data Fabric Software updates are available now and HPE Zerto Software enhancements are planned for Q2 2026.
