Veeam Ties 'Data Cloud for Microsoft 365' to Microsoft's New Backup Storage Service

On the same day that Microsoft shipped a new Microsoft 365 Backup Storage service for third-party integrations, Veeam announced just such integration with its Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365.

Microsoft 365 Backup Storage provides third-party developers with APIs to hook the service into their wares with the aim of providing the same benefits of the native Microsoft 365 Backup solution through their own integrated application. It was announced yesterday along with Microsoft 365 Backup for recovery of OneDrive, SharePoint and Exchange data.

Veeam is a launch partner for Microsoft's new service and the company's Edward Watson said it's one of the first vendors to use the new Microsoft APIs, while using the occasion to announce its Microsoft 365 data cloud service will now consist of three plans -- Flex, Express, and Premium. Microsoft 365 Backup Storage will be integrated into Express and Premium.

"Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 with Microsoft 365 Backup Storage is designed to manage large volumes of data seamlessly," Watson said in a blog post yesterday. "It leverages speeds greater than 1TB per hour, with no throttling to slow down the process. This drastically reduces the time it takes for protecting and recovering Microsoft 365 data, accomplishing in hours what used to take weeks or months. Finally, organizations can have confidence that they are leveraging optimal speeds, regardless of whether it's their first initial backup or a full restore."

In an accompanying news release, Veeam listed its new offerings deliverables:

  • Speed and Scale: This latest offering from Veeam and Microsoft is designed to manage large volumes of data seamlessly, with the ability to protect and restore 100+ TBs of data or 10,000+ objects. With this advanced solution, what used to take weeks or months is now accomplished within hours..
  • Disaster Recovery: This new solution offers bulk restores at scale, ensuring increased resilience to ransomware or malware attacks and minimizing downtime. Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 with Microsoft 365 Backup Storage empowers organizations to bounce back quickly from any data loss scenario. Organizations no longer have to choose between paying a ransom or enduring weeks or months of data restoration.
  • Future Readiness: As part of a new 5-year strategic partnership, Veeam is developing future solutions with Microsoft integrating Microsoft Copilot and Azure AI services to enhance data protection for Microsoft 365 and Azure. These solutions will simplify operations, automate administrative tasks, and allow organizations to allocate resources to business-critical initiatives, ensuring they stay ahead in a rapidly changing digital landscape.

Veeam said the new offering will be available early this month in the three new packaging options mentioned by Watson.
