Oracle Improves Sun Fire x86 Line for Private Cloud and Virtualization Deployments

Last week, Oracle rolled out enhancements to its Sun Fire x86 product, bolstering the company's line of enterprise-class rackmount and blade servers for private cloud and highly virtualized deployments.

Oracle Enterprise Manager 11g, which includes integrated cloud and virtual environment management capabilities, can be used to manage and support Sun x86 servers as a single system.

The systems come pre-installed with Oracle Solaris, Oracle Linux and Oracle VM to "provide a completely tested and supported virtualized environment for Oracle Software, including Oracle Database, Oracle Fusion Middleware and Oracle Applications," according to an Oracle media release. They are also certified to run Red Hat Enterprise Linux, SUSE Linux Enterprise, Windows Server and VMware.

Oracle touted the performance of the Sun x86 clustered systems, pointing out that they have set more than 30 world records to date in hardware benchmark tests, including five new world records that demonstrate "enterprise leadership and superior performance for Java applications."
