VMware Reaches Agreement To Buy Shavlik Technologies

Shavlik Technologies, a provider of security and management software for desktops and servers, will be acquired by virtualization and cloud provider VMware, the companies announced on Monday morning.

The companies have previously worked together on VMware Go, which launched in 2009 as a free, Web-based SaaS offering designed -- as the companies describe -- to "assist SMBs with rapid deployment and management of VMware vSphere."

In a press release issued Monday, VMware said it had "entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Shavlik" for an undisclosed sum. According to the companies, they expect the purchased to close "later this quarter."

"VMware continues to make investments to extend its leadership within the SMB market. With the Shavlik acquisition, VMware will be able to provide simple to use and affordable management services developed to address the specific demands of SMBs," commented VMware Senior Vice President and General Manager Raghu Raghuram in a prepared statement.

Shavlik CEO Mark Shavlik also commented: "This  is an exciting time for us to be joining VMware as it builds on our expertise in delivering IT solutions to SMBs, an area we have been dedicated to for many years."

"The enthusiasm, creativity and operational excellence of our two companies will allow us to better serve our global customers and partners by accelerating IT management innovations," Shavlik continued.
