In another example of Microsoft's outreach to open source communities and projects, the company announced on Tuesday it is collaborating with team members of the OpenNebula project to add Windows Server Hyper-V support.
Microsoft's new extensible virtual switch in Hyper-V 3.0 for Windows Server 8 has already been implemented by 5nine, Broadcom, Cisco, inMon and NEC, among others.
During his Build conference keynote on Wednesday, Satya Nadella, president of Microsoft's Server and Tools Business, called Windows Server 8 "the most cloud-optimized OS" being developed by Microsoft.
SCVMM 2012 RC includes many new features for hypervisor creation/management, resource optimization and service lifecycle management. It's also on a new schedule for general availability in early 2012.
